Cruise of 2005

2005 found us once again heading North but for the mainland lochs. The highlight of this holiday was the three days spent in Loch Moidart with glorious sunshine in a beautiful and very sheltered anchorage. We also visited Loch Nevis, Loch Hourne, Arisaig, Kyleakin, Rhum, Muck and Coll.
The cruise started at the begining of September with a very early start from Largs for the trip to Adrisaig and start of the Crinan Canal. With some help we managed to navigate the locks and canal all the way to the Crinan Basin on the same day.

From Crinan we headed up the Sound of Luig to stop at Puldoran then on to Tobermory which proved very uncomfortable due to a strong Easterly so we moved over to Drom Buidhe for a very peacful night.

The next stop was Moidart - the highlight of the holiday. Tricky entrance but very sheltered and picturesque.

Next stop was Loch Nevis and the Old Forge Inn. The Old Forge Inn is famous for excellent Sea food so we were looking forward to a good meal that evening. However - the local highland games were on the the Old Forge had a reduced menu of fish and chips and burgers!

From there we sailed to Loch Hourn, a really dramatic Loch with high mountains all around. We anchored for the night at Eilean Rarsaidh taking the dingy ashore for a relaxing hour or so just admiring the view.

While berthing at Ardfern we had quite an exciting visit to Corrywreckin at a spring tide (but not in our boat!)
