Doucier still had the original interior with a vinyl covering for the ceiling, window sides, bulkheads and seats. She was starting to show her 34 years of age, so we decided to refurbish the main cabin area including the galley.
The first step was to remove the vinyl from the ceiling and from around the windows. The forward bulkhead was also vinyl covered but it seems that this must have been covered before much of the interior was fitted so we decided not to remove this vinyl opting to paint over it. We were uncertain how well this would work but it has turned out exceptionally well.
Once all the old vinyl was removed the first task was to paint the sides around the windows and the aft bulkhead around the galley and watch keepers seat. For this we selected a paint resistant to moisture and mildew (Zinsser Perma-White Interior) which we bought from NWE Paints Ltd. We also used this paint for the vinyl on the forward bulkhead.

For the ceiling we fitted 3mm marine ply panels covered in vinyl. To hold the panels in place plywood battens were epoxied to the roof along the same line as the join in the original roof panels. The new plywood vinyl covered panels are screwed in place and the join between the panels are covered by a 30mm strip of teak that also neatly covers the screws. We have also covered the panels above the pilot berth & bookcase.

The seats and backs have also been fitted with new foam and re-upholstered in a matt finished vinyl material (Ambla - Brecon). The upholstery was undertaken by (Kudos Furnishing Ltd. of Lymm) making for us a superb job. The decoration was completed by painting the original vinyl on the forward bulkhead. Finally a towel rail was fitted, having searched for a suitable rail we finally found what was in fact a draw handle for a kitchen unit which made the perfect towel rail mounted above the sink on the aft bulkhead.
