Colne Point Aerial Picture

This reserve is an important area of shingle ridge and saltmarsh, situated to the north of the outer part of the River Colne estuary in Essex.

It has a flora including the Shrubby Seablite, a shrub more characteristic of the Mediterranean, Yellow Horned Poppy, Sea Purslane, Sea Lavender and Sea Kale.

Important nesting birds include Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher and Redshank, while large numbers of Brent Geese feed in the winter and passage migrants come through, spring and autumn.

Access to the reserve is by permit, obtainable from the Essex Wildlife Trust.
