The fishermen of Shetland were early to recognise the need
for unity and organisation. There has been an Association representing Shetland fishermen
since the early part of this century. In recent years, as the Shetland fishing industry
has continued to expand and develop, there has been a need to establish a number of
complementary bodies to fully represent the interests of Shetland Fishermen

 The history of the fishing industry in Shetland is important to the islands as a whole. The Shetland Fishermen's Association produces a calendar every year with pictures from the past. A collection of some of these images are here. Shetland Fishermen are at the forefront of responsible fishing. The effective management of sustainable fisheries is a prime goal of local fishermen.For information on conservation click here The Shetland Fishermen's Association celebrated it's 50th Anniversary in 1997.
