Shetland
milk is
a natural and fresh product. Proper handling and storage is
essential if milk quality is to be maintained.
As
with all foodstuffs milk must be handled properly to prevent
cross-contamination, and to reduce the risk of food poisoning.
When
shopping leave buying the milk till last. Don't put it in the
warm car and forget about it until you get home.
After
buying your milk put it directly into the fridge. This will
help it last longer. At 10°C the shelf life of pasteurised
milk is approximately halved compared to milk stored at 5°C.
It also tastes better!
Some
uncovered foods will give your milk an unpleasant taste, or
taint. Cover any leftovers with cling film.
