Jackie joined Sister Act in 2002. Jackie has been playing folk music since the age of 7. Jackie also plays for the Lichfield Comhaltas Branch Ceili Band, where she fist met Fiona and Mo. She is a tunes and singing teacher for the 'Shooting Roots' working with them at many festivals. Upon moving to Devon in 2001 to study English at Exeter University, she was exposed to the wealth of traditional singing from the area and became 'hooked' on singing songs and ballads, and learning the unusual art of fiddle singing. Jackie is fast becoming an established folk singer, in 2003 she gained a place on the TAPS 'Passionate Notes' scheme, leading to a year's mentoring with Emily Slade. This year led to a place in the trio representing England at the European Network of Traditional Music and Dance held in Segovia. Jackie has since sung and played on the acclaimed album 'Sweet England' by Jim Moray (Best Album in the Radio 2 Folk Awards 2003). She has performed at many festivals and folk Clubs, and was finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2003. |
