QUESTIONS ABOUT SIN and JUDGMENT
Mr S D Stephen's assertion that "the fact is sin is responsible for the imperfections and imbalances of nature which results in hurricanes storms earthquakes and drought" is most interesting. It raises three questions which I am sure he will answer 1) whose sin is the cause of any of these things happening on an uninhabited island and hurting nobody and, 2) when people are hurt, how is it that the suffering often falls upon the guilty and innocent alike (a corrupt official and a five-year old can both suffer in an Armenian earthquake, for example) and, 3) since neither I nor anyone dear to me has suffered directly from such imbalances of nature, may I be reassured that I and they are especially virtuous or do I and they (being as sinful as the rest) have cause to be apprehensive that our turn will surely come?
If Mr Stephen is to be credited, then 3) is of urgent personal interest to me; may I have the benefit of his advice in this matter? His answers to 1) and 2) will also be, less personally, illuminating.
