These types of pages can provide a fast, if temporary, surge of visitors to your web site. They comprise a list of links. You type the title and URL of your site into a form, and it is automatically added to the list in the specified category. There's generally a limit to the number of sites listed, and when this limit is reached older entries are overwritten.

Your site is immediately listed - useful when you first launch your site.
As some search engines use the number of links to a page as part of the way they rank sites, you may be nudged up in their placements.

Drawbacks of Free for All Links

Unless the Links page is focused on related topics, you might find that the majority of people visiting the page are doing so only to add their sites.
They are a temporary measure - your listing will eventually be overwritten.
Time consuming for a short-term strategy.
