Age Of Empires II : Age Of Kings
As in Age Of Empires, players start with minimal resources and are challenged to build their nations into great civilisations. Players can play under different victory conditions : conquering enemy, accumulating wealth, building wonders and many more.
Compared to Age Of Empires, the developers have improved on :
Combat - Players can fight more tactical battles, now that formations and garrisoning have been introduced.Units are smarter and also have the choice of guard, patrol and follow.
Resources - Aswell as collectiong resources players have the option to trade with allies, by building a market. This also opens options like buy, sell and speculate on resources.
Diverse Cultures - Players can command one of 13 civilisations. These include : Frankish, Japenese, Byzantine, Viking, Mongal and Celtic. Each civilisation has their own attributes, buildings, technologies and military units.
Technology Path - Age of Empires II lets gamers choose from numerous technological paths to lead their civilization to victory. You could take an economic path of farming and craftmanship or a military route of seige and naval warfare.
Gameplay - Campaigns are based around historical figures and their struggles. A new expert computer player which provides you with an opponent just like a human. Aswell as the old Deathmatch option there is an additional mode called Regicide, where players must protect their King or Queen while they try to assasinate the enemy's one. There is also a campaign editor available which lets you create and exchange scenarios.
