Minutes of the meeting of the PARISH PASTORAL
COUNCIL
held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 16th March 2005 in the Holy Ghost Parish Rooms
Opening prayer
Present: Fr Kevin Jones, Brenda Baigrie, Ann FitzPatrick, Angela Greenwood, Shirley Hayden, John Kavanagh, Aoife McLean, Paul Page Tickell (and Sue Niblett to take Minutes).
1. Apologies for absence
Apologies were received from Margaret Derlacki, Margaret Pearce, Gerry Picozzi,
Martin Stubbs and Mike Withers.
2. Minutes of previous meeting
The Minutes of the meeting of 2 February 2005 were approved.
8. Parish Day of Reflection - this proved to be a very successful day and Father Kevin felt that the older parishioners in particular learned a lot from it. He said that there had been some very interesting and thought-provoking questions from the Eucharistic Ministers. Father said that the Parish should try and run a similar day each year with, perhaps, next year's main topic being Reconciliation.
9. Parish Charities - the PPC recognised David Rhodes' hardwork in organising the recent concert at the Holy Ghost Church. Although attendance was disappointing, congratulations go to David for raising over £100 for CAFOD.
10. New Baptismal Font for Immaculate Conception Church
The font should arrive in May.
Any other business :
PPC Get-together - will be held on Saturday 16 April at the Holy Ghost parish rooms at 7.30pm. Everybody is asked to bring a plate of food to share and John Kavanagh agreed to organise the drinks.Health and Safety Representative - Bernard Eden and Shane Leslie have kindly agreed to act as Health and Safety representatives for the Parish.Sandhurst Churches Together - Margaret Derlacki and Paul Page Tickell will be the Parish representatives.
4. 'Growing Together in Christ'
Father Kevin read out a prayer, received from the Bishop, which will be displayed
on the church noticeboards and also put in the Newsletter. The Diocesan Assembly
will be held at Reading University from 21 - 23 July and there are 19 places
available to the South Berkshire Deanery, costs to be borne by the Diocese.
Parishioners are to be invited, via the Newsletter. Father Kevin will attend,
together with Martin, Paul, Mike, Angela and Ann.
Further names to Sue please, by mid May.
5. Catechetical Co-ordinator
A working party was set up to agree upon a job description and terms of employment.
Members are Father Kevin, Aoife, Shirley and John. Sue to arrange their first
meeting after Easter.
6. Easter Triduum
Dave Robinson will be co-ordinating the Readers and Eucharistic Ministers.
There are enough Altar Servers to cover all the Masses. John Kavanagh will
organise 12 volunteers for washing of feet.
7. Parish Pilgrimage
An initial meeting will be arranged after Easter for those interested parishioners.
The purpose of the meeting will be to decide the venue and date of the pilgrimage.
8. Bishop Crispian's forthcoming visit (2nd/3rd July)
Father Kevin suggested a draft itinerary for the Bishop's visit :
Saturday afternoon Visits around the parish, including Broadmoor Hospital
Vigil Mass Followed by refreshments in the Parish Centre, to meet parishioners
Saturday evening At Bill Coleman's home, with guests
9.00am Mass Followed by refreshments - to meet parishioners (time permitting)
11.00am Mass Followed by refreshments - to meet parishioners (time permitting)
Sunday lunch With the Pastoral Council at the Immaculate Conception Sandhurst
Sunday afternoon Visit the Kolinsky and Bird families
Sue to contact the Bishop's secretary to get a clearer idea of what time he plans to arrive.
9. CaFE
Father Kevin is to send a letter of thanks and some flowers to Jenny Bazeley
for all the hard work she did co-ordinating the last CaFE course. Paul is
to organise a committee to discuss leadership and programme for September.
10. Children's prayers
In an effort to encourage uniformity, Father Kevin will arrange a meeting
with all the adult Readers. He will talk with the child readers at a separate
meeting.
1. Churches Together in Crowthorne - David Greenwood has indicated that he would like to retire as the Parish representative next year, and asked if the Parish Council could suggest a successor.
2. Social Committee - the Social Committee desperately needs more members. A note to this effect is to be put into the Newsletter.
12. Date and time of next meeting
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 10 May at 7.30pm in The Holy Ghost Parish
rooms.
