3. Matters arising from previous Minutes
3.7 Parish Pilgrimage - This will be to Fatima (Portugal) from 1 - 8 October 2005 and Rupert Page Tickell is to co-ordinate.
3.8 CaFE - Paul and Mike will be running the CaFE youth course as a follow up, or possibly in conjunction with, the 2006 Confirmation Programme.
3.10 Children's prayers - the Readers' course for the children had gone well and Lucy Hammond had now been added to the Readers' rota.
3.11 (AOB) Churches Together in Crowthorne - David Greenwood still needs some
assistance and an appeal for help will be put in the Newsletter in September. Mike Withers will help David with the monthly services at Pinehurst in Crowthorne but if anybody would like to visit Pinehurst to find out more before committing themselves, they would be very welcome.
11.6 (AOB) Minibus - Father Kevin confirmed that the Parish would not be jointly purchasing a minibus with Our lady's School because the Finance Committee was opposed to the proposal. He had already advised the school of this decision. If we need the use of a minibus we will hire it from the school Mike Withers suggested that if the school acquire a minibus at any time in the future, they may like to park it at the TRL facilities.
4. Growing Together in Christ - a summary of the feedback on the major issues raised in the Autumn 2004 and Spring 2005 sessions were distributed to all. Mike Withers will be a Facilitator at the Diocesan Assembly at Reading University on 21-23 July.
7. Parish Charities - discussions continued on this topic and the Jesuit Missions will be approached with the possibly of finding a Parish to twin with. Gilly Withers' presentation on the Chidamoyo Trust at the Immaculate Conception Church had been very well received by those who attended.
4. Catechetical Co-ordinator
A first draft of the job advertisement was distributed to all. A second draft
will be sent out before the next meeting, when Father has had the time to
finalise it.
5. Bishop's visit (2 and 3 July)
Shirley Hayden to arrange refreshments for after Saturday Vigil Mass; Gerry
Picozzi to arrange for after 9.00am Mass and Zena Sherren for after 11.00am
Mass. Professional caterers will deliver a two-course lunch (for 22 people)
to the Sandhurst Parish Centre at 11.30am on Sunday and will be let in by
John. The lunch will cost the Parish £12.50 per head plus VAT. The caterer
will return between 3.30 - 4.30pm to clear up and take away dirty dishes etc.
John will organise the wine on a sale or return basis, also glasses.
6. Churches Together in Sandhurst (Coffee Spot project)
Paul had attended the recent meeting of CTS to discuss the possibility of
all the Sandhurst churches taking over the management of the Coffee Spot,
which is located adjacent to the Memorial Park. It is hoped that this will
become a Christian witness in the heart of the town for the churches to run
together. It could be used for evening events and community activities and
all the other Sandhurst churches are very keen to launch the project.
A discussion followed as to how the project would be funded and staffed and whether all health and safety and insurance issues would be covered sufficiently.
The PPC agreed that the project sounds very exciting and would be happy to proceed further at this planning stage, although it was felt that it could only work if was self-funding. Paul will report back to the working party tomorrow that they have our support but with reservations about finance.
7. Parish Mission and Spiritual Direction of the Parish
Lesley King has kindly agreed to be the Facilitator and a meeting with her
and the PPC will be arranged one evening in September.
** now confirmed for Wednesday 14 September**
8. Any other business
1. Sandhurst community Songs of Praise - Margaret Derlacki is a member of the Churches Together in Sandhurst (CTS) working party for this ecumenical event which will be on Sunday 17 July, from 3.00 - 4.00pm at the Sandhurst Memorial Park. It will move into the hall if the weather is wet. There will be a full PA system and the Sandhurst Silver Band will be playing. Margaret has been asked to supply a list of 15-20 of parishioners' favourite hymns and Linda Tranter will co-ordinating the singers and musicians from the Immaculate Conception Church. CTS would like a representative from each church to participate, perhaps by introducing a hymn and Mike agreed to do this if nobody else was available.
2. Heythrop College (University of London) - is offering a 20-week course for the Certificate in Evangelisation and Catechesis for Parish Ministry and would suit lay people who might like to help with the work of the parish. This course would be sponsored by the Parish. A two-year, part-time degree course in Contemporary Theology in the Catholic Tradition is also available. Details of both courses to be published in the Newsletter.
3. Children's Liturgy - Bernadette Auckland and Sarah Dillon have offered to help with the Holy Ghost Church Children's Liturgy.
4. Spiritual Retreat - at Woldingham, Surrey. Mike gave brief details of this retreat to be held on 15,16, 17 July.
5. Masses during August - Father Kevin said that during the main holiday period of August the musicians will only play for the hymns and the alleluia.
6. St. Augustine's School - Paul advised that, due to too few children from Sandhurst attending the school, the school coach had been cancelled. Father advised that this could not be pursued as a Parish issue but Mike agreed to investigate with Bracknell Forest Borough Council. Paul is to supply him with copies of the correspondence received from the school.
