Multi Function I/O cards are becoming a thing of the past as more and more
motherboards come complete with their own on board IDE controllers, Com
Ports, Printer Ports and game ports. Previously a Multi I/O card
was required
to carry out these tasks. Why would we want to know how to reconfigure
these cards? In my previous job I saw
loads of these cards dumped simply because there were no instructions
for changing the settings, the cards worked fine but couldn't be modified
as these instructions were missing. If for example you wanted to
get your modem onto Com2 (some older programs only saw the first two Com
Ports) you would need to either dissable it on the I/O or change the I/O
Card to Com 4. This was a scenario I saw on several occasions
but due to the relatively low cost of these cards
a new one was usually used. What a waste!!! Once you have
figured out a couple of these patterns begin to emerge and you can make
a good guess as to which jumpers to play with. Remember to allways
take a note of the original settings just in case.
The settings for the following ISA Multi I/O cards are available.
