Torbay and South Devon Friends of the Earth is a local pressure group which campaigns on environmental issues.
We lobby decision makers and promote awareness of the issues of the day which affect the world we live
in both locally and globally.
IT'S TIME TO ACT - The 1990s are the make or break decade for our planet.
The world's rainforests are disappearing ... air and water pollution are increasing ... global warming threatens us all with catastrophic climate changes. We are reaching a critical threshold of environmental damage from which there may be no turning back.
Millions of people are very concerned about what is happening to our world and looking for ways to change things for the better. Perhaps you think that means you don't have to get involved, or that the environment is getting enough attention. Nothing could be further from the truth - the battle is nowhere near won. Friends of the Earth is fighting to stop the damage before it's too late - we can't afford to wait.
In conjunction with national Friends of the Earth we campaign on a wider range of issues than any other environmental group and have an impressive record of success. Some of our most recent achievements include:
Bringing about the reduction of Britain's consumption of tropical hardwoods by nearly a third.
Ending the use of ozone-destroying CFCs in the aerosol and fast-food packaging industries.
Exposing the UK Government's failure to take the necessary action to prevent global warming.
Publicising the location of thousands of toxic waste dumps around the UK.
Seeing our long-standing arguments that nuclear power is uneconomic vindicated by the City and the Government.
Establishing pioneering recycling schemes.
Helping people in communities around the UK take action on environmental issues through our network of over 300 local groups.
