-----------------------------------------------------------------

This band was formed in 1985 originally with three members - Barry (fiddle), David (guitar) and Kevin (piano) and were known as ‘Dem’ . Over the next few years, various line ups were formed and in 1991/1992, Martin re-joined and the band became Rack ‘N’ Ruin. They entered a talent competition sponsored by Shetland Country Music Club and won. This success started the band playing at venues all over Shetland, including the local festivals, which continued until Barry left Shetland to attend college. Now, on his regular visits back home, they get together to perform.

Barry Nisbet
Barry is nineteen years old and was brought up in Cullivoe in the island of Yell, Shetland. He is presently training to be a marine cadet. He learned to play the fiddle in primary school. His love for music has continued and grown steadily since. He now also plays the guitar and a mandolin which he made himself. He is yet another multi-instrumentalist and composer, the track featured on this album being one of Barry’s compositions.

David B. Spence
David is twenty four and has lived in Cullivoe all his life. He left school at 16 and studied for higher qualifications at home and now works for the local highway authority. He started playing the fiddle at primary school and reached the final six in the 1981 Young Fiddler of the Year competition. In the mid 1980s he started playing the guitar. David now plays whenever he can at sessions and sing-songs in North Yell.

Martin H. Henderson
Martin is eighteen and was brought up in Cullivoe. He left school and started training in healthcare and continues to work with mentally handicapped adults. He also learned to play the fiddle in primary school, tried other instruments, but stuck with the piano and now plays in a local dance band at weekends.

Kevin J. Tulloch
Kevin is twenty and has lived in Cullivoe all his life. He first learned to play the fiddle at the age of eight and then learned the piano, following this a few years later with the bass. Kevin left school at sixteen and started work on a local salmon farm. He is active in the local community.
