Wimbleball Sailing Club
Wimbleball Lake covers 385 acres and is situated on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Apart from its primary use which is to supply water to South West Water & Wessex Water customers, it services the needs of various sport and leisure groups i.e. walkers, anglers, sailors and birdwatchers. With the exception of competitive rowing all boating on the lake operates under the control of the sailing club.

DUTIES
Members are required to carry out duty days (usually 2 per year), these fall into 4 categories :- Race Officer, Rescue Boat Operator, Officer of the Day and Galley. All duty members are supervised by a Duty Committee Member. If you are not familiar with sailing club duties, please don't let it put you off, training and help will be given, no one is "Thrown in at the deep end".
No Duties Fee
The Club recognises that some members' commitments make it difficult or impossible to attend at prearranged times for duties, for this reason you may opt to pay a no duties fee, please remember however that duties are essential in order that the club can function.
TRAINING
For people who are new to sailing, the club has a number of RYA qualified instructors among its members, ask about "Get You Sailing" courses.
SAFETY
At WSC we consider that safety is of paramount importance, for this reason we insist on all members taking reasonable precautions e.g. Jacket type buoyancy aids must be worn at all times when you are on the water and ungraded sailors are not permitted to sail unless safety cover is available.
GRADING
The grading system has been set up to allow competent sailors to sail when safety cover is not available. "A" Grading is approximately equivalent to RYA level 5 and allows you to sail alone. "B" Grading is approximately equivalent to RYA level 3 and allows you to sail in the company of another boat helmed by another graded sailor who is prepared to act as your rescuer. A recently acquired RYA certificate (Max. 3 yrs old) may be accepted as evidence of ability.
RACING
The Club runs a full racing programme, with racing every Sunday throughout the year. Racing for many members adds that little bit of competition, which leads to total addiction. If you don’t race but would like to, don't be put off, join in and have a go, most racers are only too happy to help you get involved.
CRUISING
For those who prefer to cruise, carry on, there is room for all. Every one is welcome at Wimbleball.
OPENING TIMES
The Club is normally open Wednesday p.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday June to September inclusive. During the winter months on Sundays only.
CRAFT SAILED
A variety of boats are sailed at the club, including :- Optimist, Mirror, Topper, Miracle, Enterprise, Albacore, Scorpion, Fireball, Tasar, RS400, 505, Flying fifteen. There are also several sailboard sailors who like to impress us with their skills when the wind gets up and dinghy sailors have got tired of swimming.
