IMS Super Pentium

Over the past decade, IMS has designed and produced a series of microprocessors, the Meta 3230, 3240 and 3250 that emulate both high-level languages and industry standard machine languages. The Meta 3240 emulated Motorola's 68000 instruction set, while the Meta 3250 could emulate both Motorola 68040 and the Intel 486 instruction sets. These emulators performed dwell and exhibited good fidelity, running industry standard software like DOS and Windows. This technological evolution created the core elements of current IMS designs.
In partnership with a major international semiconductor manufacturer, IMS is developing the Meta 6000, a fully socket-compatible (pin-for-pin) version of the Intel Pentium tm. This microprocessor will have market demand for both Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and retrofit markets. IMS propriietary superscaler architecture should produce a chip the yields 275 megahertz Pentium tm performance. The Meta 600 design utilizes state of the art superscaler technologies such as: register renaming, out-of-order execution and multi-level branch prediction. The IMS custom design should result in compact size, resulting in high foundry yields and low costs per chip. The licensing arrangements currently in place guarantee IMS access to chips, dies and wafers from the foundry partner. The on-chip MMX capability of the Meta 6000 is compatible with and processes instructions 30% faster than industry devices. Incorporated within the chip is an advanced tag design that supports a very fast floating point unit with a cahe capacity of 32K. The foundry partner wtilizes an advanced fabrication process to produce the .35 micron, 5 layer metal design the enhances reliability and performance.
