This is the third blend for Pre Menstrual Syndrome PMS. And again, this week, the blend is aimed at women for whom the symptoms are a Tired & Listless depression. As PMS is a mixture of symptoms a different blend of oils are required to relieve the symptoms and counter the hormonal changes that a woman's body undergoes during the Menstrual Cycle. This can mean that a blend that work for one person will not have the same effect in another.
Essential Oils and Aromatherapy treatments can produce dramatic effects, however the exact way the syndrome manifests its self is the key to treating the condition. PMS can be grouped into four types.
Depressive {Tired & Listless} A
Irritable
Irritable {Aggressive}
Each will be covered in a separate Blend of the Week
The recipe is as follows.
10 drops Grapefruit {Citrus Paradisi}
10 drops Clary Sage {Salvia Scaleria}
8 drops Fennel sweet {Foeniculum Vulgare}
2 drops Chamomile Roman {Anthemis Nobilis}
This is diluted to 5% in carrier oil {30ml Total}
This blend would be massaged into the abdomen the upper legs, the upper and lower back and the buttocks.
As previously stated, the first oil in this blend is Clary Sage {Salvia Scaleria} to help bring the hormonal levels back into balance. The next oil is Grapefruit {Citrus Paradisi} well known as a mood lifting Oil. However take care to avoid direct sun light as this oil is photo toxic. Thus the areas that are treated should be covered with clothing before going out into the sun. Fennel sweet {Foeniculum Vulgare}, is included for its carminative and stimulant qualities. It also has the effect of working as a Diuretic, reducing the bloated feeling most women feel just before the start of the period. The last oil is Chamomile Roman {Anthemis Nobilis}, while the main reason for including this oil in the blend was to counter the possible dermal toxic effects of the fennel, as it has other positive properties for treating PMS it was the oil that was going to be most effective. It is possible that this blend is a true Synergy, but as it has contra indications for women with high blood pressure and Epilepsy, it is only used if the first blend is not fully effective.
