Spurious Sounds

From Edgar Dousi:

Sometimes when I play a while just a lot of noise comes in between of sounds. It's not long (10 "s of seconds) but it's anoying. I checked all the cables and even bought brand new ones ƒ 30,- (about 13 pound) but still the occassional quarckle stays, and I just play fabric standard sounds. Does anyone else have the same problem ?? I'm thinking about bringing it in for a service round.

Sound Banks

From Marcus Lazzari:

After I loaded some Disks with different Sounds I have now 1 Bank (User 2) and 1 Drumkit which have all the Soundnames "UUUUUUUUUU". When Iīm now loading new Sounds, the WSA hangs and canīt be played (all Sounds are gone). After Initializing, the Sounds are back again, but the defect Sounds in Bank User2 are still there.

Sequencer Voices

From Richard Hull (on Technics Forum):
also Geoff Stockham

Richard Hull: When i save type 0 midi's (i have a wsa1r) and play them back on the internal fdd on my wsa1 they play with incorect voices etc. unless I use generalmidi. how can i fix this problem - please help me.

Geoff Stockham: I have had the same problem with saving midi files, with all voices returning as piano. If however I load one of the demo midi files, and "Step Edit" to change a voice then save it, the voice is permanently changed. The same technique on my files doesn't work! I'm afraid I gave up and now save in Technics format (or don't use the sequencer, which is a shame as I find it very quick to "sketch" ideas) I have been told to select all voices you need, then "Panel Write" but this didn't really work for me either.

WSA Polyphony

From Zoran Jevtic:

I am wandering if anyone is experiencing polyphony problems on WSA1R, or am I just mad? When there are many 16s played in several sequences on several channels, I get timing problems with WSA, while the same sequence plays fine on my other synths, even on a 32-note soundcard... Is there a way to set number of notes per channell on a WSA (like say on Rolands JV1080)?

Jimmy Bland: I have experienced the same timing problems. It is most obvious in drum tracks where a hi-hat tick is not exact all the time. I think it is to do with starting or finishing too many notes at the same point. (Too much data to shuffle through in one tick) The solution I have found works is to move some of the data (On note edit or drum edit) Forward or backwards just 1 tick or so, to break the data up a bit, and allow the sequencer a bit more time to deal with it all.... Hope it has been of some help :)

Edgar Dousi: Before I bought the WSA I read a review (I think it was MIDI KEYBOARD) where they wrote that when you used a external midi sequencer the timing sometimes became a problem. This was due to a slow processor. I don't know if it's true but maybe it applies to you.

Digital Drawbars

From Willfried Stuettgen:

Have you used the digital drawbars yet? The reason I'm asking is that the WSA behaves sometimes pretty strange, it completely hangs and needs a full hardware reset. This usually happens if you hit a key and while you keep it pressed vary the drawbars and the effects. Have you seen something like this too?

Compilation Patch Disks

From James McMillan:

Do you know of any way that I can make a compilation of the Factory patches and those on the 'dance' and 'synth' disks....I'd love to make my favourites of each disk available.....Emagic's Sounddiver won't handle the WSA so I can't use that for librarian stuff.....I'm on a Mac....any ideas??

Geoff Stockham: The only way I know to compile a "favourites" disk will probably be a bit tedious, but I used it so I know it works! Just go through the disks you want to take sounds from and note the bank/group/program numbers. Then from the disk menu use "Load Single Sound" to put it onto your own banks. I believe someone was writing a PC Librarian, but I've no idea about a mac one.
