Location And Surroundings
Holton Le Clay is a commuter village situated in the North East of England in the county of North Lincolnshire, on the south bank of the River Humber, close to the Humber Estuary The village lies 4 miles south from the centre of Grimsby, this being the nearest town with a population of over 60,000. Grimsby is a busy fishing port with a buoyant food manufacturing industry.

There are many food processing factories in the area and in recent years Grimsby has acquired the dubious honour of being nicknamed "Europe's Food Town". The pride of the centre of Grimsby is it's modern shopping centre "Freshney Place", with a range of shops, cafes, restaurants and other facilities to rival many larger towns and cities. Another one of the town's main attractions is it's award winning "National Fishing Heritage Centre" reflecting Grimsby's strong links with the deep sea fishing industry. This is a superb museum which brings to life the harsh reality of working on a fishing trawler in the North Sea.
Cleethorpes Promenade (in February !)	To the North West of Grimsby are 2 of Europe's largest oil refineries, Conoco and Lindsey Oil. This area is known as the Humber Bank and is the host to a large (and growing) number of businesses.
Immingham is another nearby port situated 15 miles to the north west of the village of Holton Le Clay. The docks at Immingham are home to more industries, including the importing, packaging and distribution of agricultural fertilisers. Both Grimsby and Immingham are key U.K. locations for the import and export of Motor Vehicles to and from Europe.
Waltham Windmill (3 miles from Holton le Clay)	These industries around Grimsby, Immingham and the Humber Bank account for a large percentage of the jobs in the area and many of the people living in the villages to the south of Grimsby work in this area. Only 5 miles to the north east of Holton Le Clay is the seaside resort of Cleethorpes. Among its' many attractions are the "Pleasure Island" fun fair, leisure centre, boating lake, bowling alley, promenade and pier.

Holton le Clay and it's neighbouring towns and villages are built on a flat area of glacial boulder clay, but situated nearby to the south west is the more picturesque area of the Lincolnshire Wolds. This provides a contrast to the flat nearby coastline, with its undulating chalk hills and valleys with pretty villages nestling amongst them.

Louth Market Place	To the south of Holton Le Clay, twelve miles away is the historic market town of Louth, and still further south along the Lincolnshire coast are the busy seaside resorts of Mablethorpe and Skegness.
