What a lovely site. Most impressive. I like the photos also, very clear. I visited last year and the area around Peakes Lane has changed greatly. Used to spend every Summer there, from Lincoln, at my Grandfathers house, Osprey House, Peakes Lane, until early 1950s. Does anyone recall Sam Banks a Dock Pilot [died 1960] or any of his children, all deceased now. Norman, Cyril,Florence and Rose Mary BANKS.

Would love to hear from anyone with any connection.

I am a GCSE geography student at King Edward VI Grammar School, and I am doing a study on Humberston for my coursework. I recently visited the Humberston web site, and was very impressed and found it incredibly useful for my study. Though I was wondering if you would be able to help me further with my study. I would be grateful if you could provide me with any useful information that could answer some of these questions.

How has Humberston changed in the last 50 years?
What is the main type of housing in Humberston?
When did most house building take place?
Is Humberston a suburbanised village?
When did it become one?
How is Humberston likely to change in the future?

I am aware that i am asking for a lot, but i would be grateful for any information you can send me.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Yours faithfully, Puja Kumar

I'm writing to let you know that the local First Responder scheme is now running in the Humberston/New waltham area. The first responder scheme is a volunteer scheme, run by local people who want to get involved and try and help saving lives in our area. You might see our cars in this area, badged First responder. We are all qualified by lincolnshire ambulance, to attend medical emergencies, such as heart attacks in our local area. We need more volunteers, anyone who wants to help and try save lives. This is not a gung-ho scheme who fly about on blue lights. We are backed by lincolnshire ambulance and travel at road speed, but because we are 'on site' we tend to arrive before the ambulances. So if there is anyone interested in training to become a first responder and live in the Humberston/New Waltham area, please e-mail me or for further information go to www.liveshq.org .We also would appreciate any donations, as this is entireley a volunteer scheme, and the next live we save may be yours.

Thanks

I am presently researching my family history and would very much like to learn more about present and past Hutsons in the local area. my father's mother was Edith Annie Hutson who married Ernest Willmer. Edith's father was Charles William Hutson and her mother was Jane Marshall. Edith was born 13 September 1896 and she was born in Utterby. I would like to know about the Marshall's also. Ernest Willmer lived at Silver Street for many years and had a small booklet printed about a walk through the village when he was 7. I have quite a few Hutsons buried in the churchyard and cemetary of whom I am related to.

I came across this site doing family research. Two of my Great Grandfathers lived in Waltham. James SALMON was station master there for several years until 1865, having previously been Station Master at Holton-Le-Clay around 1850. My other Great Grandfather is a mystery man, born Charles SCARBOROUGH he changed his name to KEMP and became Mayor of Grimsby I believe. I have photographs of the houses they lived in and where their children, my grandparents were born and where they were married. In particular I am trying to find anyone with any connections to Charles Kemp who had three sons Ernest ,William and Oscar.

Not bad seen as there has been NO newspaper mention or any other form of advertising except yourself and me ! Please keep the support and spread the news.

From Steve George

Just found your website and thoroughly enjoyed it ! I grew up in H.L.C. between 1975 - 95 and although it's only a few years since I lived there, your site has brought back some happy memories. I remember as a boy following the train as it removed the rails (as shown in photos), and with my friend Steve Holden running errands for the railwaymen - whom I seem to recall mainly came from the Nunsthorpe area ! I now live on the south coast of England and do not get the chance to visit home as much as I would like to. I look forward to revisiting Holton and send my kind regards to everyone I know there.

Best Wishes, Stephen George.

To June Schreon (nee Nelson) :

I have been in contact with Val Ziska (nee Rycroft) by telephone on your behalf and about you trying to connect with old friends. She would like to hear from you but she is not on the internet but her family are. We attended Waltham Toll Bar Secondary modern school together from 1949-1953.

Hi...I just found this site and found it very interesting. I have never been to England but with all the research I am doing on my family (who all came from England) I sure want to come. My great grandfather married a Mary Ann Maddams in Tottenham and she came from Waltham. Her parents were William Maddams and Mary Benton and they were married at Waltham Old Church, Waltham on March 18, 1842. Does anyone know of this family. I seem to be stuck right there and would love to find out who Williams Parents were and if he had brothers or sisters.

Keep up the good work and I would love to hear from anyone with any info at all about the Maddams family..........Thank You......Donna in Horsefly, B.C.

Just found the site was very pleased getting any info from back home. The site is very good and the photos were very good too. I grew up in Humberston and still have some family there but I now live in the USA . I hope to come home later this year so will be back looking up some old friends,

Hi

Loved the site, especially the photos of Waltham. My g-g-grandparents George & Fanny KIRMAN (nee PATCHETT) lived in Waltham from about 1869 till sometime after the 1891 census when they moved to Cleethorpes. I have found details of them living at No. 2 Skinners Lane, Cheapside and No. 34 Barnoldby Road. George was working as a brickyard labourer when they lived on Barnoldby Road. I am now living in New Zealand so it was lovely to see the beautiful clear photos of Waltham.

To whom it may concern,

Myself and five other student nurses are doing a project on Humberston and the facilities for people living there. I have found your website very useful, but was wondering if anyone could give me some information on the history and health facilities in the area, such as residential homes, GP surgeries and health clinics. I would be very grateful for any feed back.

Subject: History of Holton le Clay

Is it possible for anyone to help me find any sort of History for Holton-le-Clay. I am particularly interested in any information that might give some insight as to any History of Holton's in Holton-le-Clay. We are just starting to do some research of our Holton Ancestors who came from Ireland to the United States in the 1860's. It is our understanding that most of the Holton family came to Ireland in the mid 1700's from England but we have no idea where they came from in England. I came across Holton-le-Clay as I was doing some general searches on the Internet. I know its a long shot that there is any connection with my ancestors but I would greatly appreciate any information that anyone might have to share.

Thanks,

Pat Holton Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Subject: Tracing relatives

Hello. I hope that someone in Waltham can help me locate relatives of my late Father Leslie Williams (deceased 16th Oct 1990). He was married to Eileen Agnes Williams (deceased 1997) and they resided at 22 Fairway, Waltham, Grimsby. I would also like to get in touch with any of my stepmothers family also. I am now 52 years old and living in Milan Italy, I have been trying to locate my father for quite some time and have just found out that sadly, he passed away before I could meet him. I never new my father as he left my mother when I was 9 years old, I do know however that he had natural brothers, 1/2 brothers and a sister their names are Arthur Williams, John Williams, Ray Best, and Sheila Best I also believe there are other relatives in the area named Alf and Bertha Coles. I am informed that my father was a property repairer in Grimsby. I would be grateful If you would kindly place this notice on your board and if anyone who reads it has any information I can be reached by post at :- Leslie Williams Via Cadorna 3 20053 Muggio, Milan Italy. or by telephone on 0039-039793592 (home) or 00393486044945 (mobile) I would immediately phone the person back on their number to prevent costs to them.

Thanks. L.J.Williams

As an add on to the message below I believe That Eileen Williams was involved with a nursery group in Waltham and attended All Saints Church.

BINGO NIGHT!

New Waltham Village Hall, every other Friday.
Summer dates: July 27th, August 10th, 24th September 7th, 21st. Free Admission, Raffle, Name Cards. Come along for a pleasant evening. Eyes down 7:30pm.

Folk Music Night

At the Tilted Barrel pub, Waltham. Every month, first Thursday evening.
Just a note to let you know we have been unceremoniously thrown out of the Tilted Barrel by the new landlady. She approached Carol and myself as we were leaving on the night of the last session and told us that we could not hold the session there any more. This is a sad occasion as we have always been made welcome at the Barrel and have had a good relationship with the previous management (Frank and Denise). I have seen Frank since we were thrown out and he also thinks she is making a big mistake. Could you please pass this information on to everyone you see as there will no doubt be someone turn up expecting a session next month. Please announce this information at clubs etc.

Many thanks for your support over the years.
