Mossley Hill 2nds 1 - SFH 2nds 4
A suberb start to the millenium season for the Fleetwood Hesketh second string,
began with goal keeper Mitchell denyning the home side on three occasions in
the first half.
It was very evident that Mossley's pre-league friendlies had given the a real
lift. Southport were cold and lacked cohesion. The second half began as a
mirror immage of the first and having made another two great saves Mitchell was
eventually beaten from close range.
This seemed to act as a catalyst for the away side who began to play some
lovely hockey with lots of slick inter play. Young barry fellows caused havoc
on the right and latching onto a through ball from Simon Blackburn cut into the
circle, rounded the keeper and scored with a reverse sweep.
The same player continued with his good form laying on goals for Ian Rodgers
and Mark Wilson. Simon Pattinson completed the scoring with a fine acute angle
shot. |

SFH 2nd's 1 - Glaxo 2nd's 3
As predicted in the previousweek's report, the Glaxo side proved to be
exceptionally strong. Their visit to Greenbank on Saturday provided a highly
motivated match with some outstanding hockey played.
Southport Fleetwood Hesketh competed well in the first with Pattinson, Wilson
and the returning Andy Halsall working well on the right. Halsall drove into
the opponents circle on several occassions, but it was from the first short
corner awarded the home side that Glaxo scored with a lucky deflection.
Southport came back strongly and from their second short corner they levelled
through Barry Fellows.
The second half began as the first, fast fluid hockey played by both teams.
Unfortunately age took its toll on the home side with 3 veterans having to be
substituted in quick succession. This upset the balance of the side and during
the transition, Glaxo forced a second goal. Southport chased the game and came
through Halsall and Hales, but in their pursuit of an equaliser, gaps were left
in defence and Glaxo sealed all the points with their third five minutes from
time.
Southport Fleetwood Hesketh must not lose heart from this and look forward to
Saturday's trip to Cheshire, where they meet Bramhall. |

Bramhall 2nds 7 - SFH 2nds 1
Last saturday in a match which saw debutant Peter Gallagher drafted into the
starting line-up. Southport fleetwood hesketh's only cause for celebration was
a spectactular reverse stick goal from sixteen year old Barry Fellowes.
SFH were unlucky not to continue scoring with good attempts from Steve Brennan
and Peter Galagher. Other good performances came from Simon Blackburn and
Graham Spencer. |
