Season End 1999
Southport Fleetwood Hesketh mens hockey first team finished the season in adisappointing ninth position in Division 4 of the Berrymans Lace Mawer North West hockey league. In what has been a difficult season, the team has struggled with injuries to key players, and the defection to other clubs of a number of players midway through the season. However, skipper Rob Markland said that performances towards the end of the season demonstrated the potential still within the team. Meanwhile, the second team finished in tenth position in Division 7, and are currently threatened by possible relegation, which will depend on promotion and relegation issues in national and northern leagues.

At the recent club AGM, Southport Fleetwood Hesketh hockey club elected new officials over sandwiches and a pint at their clubhouse. After nearly folding the club at Christmas, it was great to see so many members attending. New chairman is Ian Rodgers, with Giles Lawson continuing as secretary. Steve (Top Goose) Brennan is the Fixture Secretary, with Graham Spencer acting as Treasurer once again. New team captains are Stuart Markland for the first XI and Simon Blackburn for the second XI. Special awards were made to Vic Sereno and Jim Dixon for their stirling work as umpires over recent years.
Season End 2000
For another season Southport Fleetwood Hesketh mens 1st and 2nd teams finished low in tables. The 1st team just escaping from relegation on the 4th Division and the 2nd team dropping like a stone from the 7th Division into the 8th. Although probelms encountered last season did not duplicate themselves completely, the club found themselves wanting for more players. Nearly every game 1 or both teams ran out with les than a full complement. It must be recognised from the commitment of all regular players who knew that it was going to be a difficult season that everyone tried so hard to keep the club afloat when once again it was discused to drop a team but team spirit pepped up to keep both sides going to the end of season and hopefuly beyond.

As it seems to becoming a ritual the recent AGM was held over a few pints of beer with one of the bigggest turnouts of players and officials that can be remembered for some time. Mike Spencer (ex Vice Chairman) has climbed the dizzy heights to Chairman, along with Steve Brennan (ex Fix. Sec) to Vice Chairman and Toni Barret (non-player) taking over as Fixtures Secretary.

The 1st team really went to town with the awards ceremony with Rob Markland recieving the 1st team player of the year award utilising an extensive points voting system.

Giles Lawson received the Chairmans award with his unrelentless help with both teams in playing and his driving skills and Graham Spencer recieved the 2nd team player of the year award,

Everyone agreed that although we are uncertain of the coming season we are going to give have a mighty crack at it.
