I Kings 3: 5-12
(S.M. p. 330; R.C.L. p. 318)
At the beginning of Solomon’s reign he asks for wisdom. This leads on to the famous story of his judgement between the two harlots (vv 16-27).
Responsorial Psalm: 119: 129-136
(S.M. p. 331; R.C.L. p. 319)
R. Lord, how I love your law.
Romans 8: 26-39
(S.M. p. 331; R.C.L. p. 320)
A passage which has been the source of much controversy on predestination. Paul stresses that salvation cannot be earned, but we need to read this passage whilst keeping in mind that God wishes all men to be saved.
(1 Tim 2:4).
Alleluia, alleluia!
I call you friends, says the Lord,
because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father.
Alleluia!
(S.M. p. 332)
S. Matthew 13: 31-33, 44-52
(S.M. p. 332; R.C.L. p. 321) SP
A collection of parables of the Kingdom, of which the first has been transferred by the RCL from last week’s gospel. The last verse’s ‘things new and old’ suggests both what our Lord is offering and the treasures of Judaic thought.
