Welcome to Manor Park   "Gateway to the East"

The Duckpond

That's the duckpond on Wansted Flats, one of the nicest places near Manor Park.

The pond is interesting in all seasons. In winter it freezes (as above). On the 4th January 2002 the ice was so thick after more than a week's cold weather that some people were walking across to the island.

Oin Summer it sometimes gets flourescent algae blooms or shrinks and in March 2001 it was so full it overflowed onto the road :

but I think people should stop throwing huge amounts of bread, rice and other food for the ducks because there is always far more than they need and it's encouraging an overpopulation of Canada Geese and even worse - pigeons .

More flood pictures now follow, taken on March 25th 2001

March 2001: The sodden playing fields increased the water catchment area, draining along little streams into the pond
