Pubs

Barrel - Eyam Edge

The pub is right opposite launch for Eyam Edge, but if flying, don't use the pub car park. It has recently changed hands and has a flyer-friendly atmosphere with good drinks and food. There is a folk night on Wednesday nights so if you're into that sort of thing (woolly jumpers?) it's a good night out. The view from the pub is beautiful - it's a bit out of the way but worth a visit

The Bull - Little Hucklow

This is an up and coming pub located on the Tideswell (south) side of Bradwell on the main road. Not exceptionally good foos and a good selection of beers.

The Old Sun Inn - Buxton

Situated just 100 yards from Airways Shop, this is a friendly pub with a good atmosphere.

Cafes

Nats Cafe

Nats Cafe is just around the corner from Airways shop, just off the Market Place in Buxton. The food is excellent - all home cooked and imaginative in its variety. It has a rustic feel with big wooden tables and an informal atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Outdoor Shops

On The Edge

On The Edge is on the Market Place in Buxton, next to the Town Hall and is the retail arm of Airways. Selling a variety of fashionable clothing, On The Edge concentrates on trendy surf-style brands eg O’Neill, Mambo, Quicksilver, Rusty, Watson etc. They also have the practical equipment to supply your flying needs with balaclavas, hats, flying suits, gloves and fleeces. A range of Oakley sunglasses is available as well as flying instruments, radios books and videos.

Jo Royle

Jo Royle is opposite Airways in the Market Place at Buxton. A long established outdoor shop, Jo sells a range of outdoor gear including ski and climbing equipment.

Hitch And Hike

Hitch and Hike is at the back of the Peak Garden Centre on the main Hathersage/Castleton road at Bamford. The shop has a good range of clothes/climbing/caving gear and lots of other bits and pieces.

Outside

Outside is a large climbing shop in the centre of Hathersage right next to the Petrol Station. It has a good range of clothing and equipment for all tastes and has a cafe upstairs if you need a rest from browsing. (Tel 01433 651936)

Magic Mountain

This is a small shop based in Glossop that sells Mountain Equipment seconds and there are some real bargains to be had. They also have some Ron Hill and other seconds. If you're after something specific like a duvet or Gortex Jacket, it's worth giving them a ring before trekking all the way to Glossop (tel: 01457 854424).

Climbing Walls

There is plenty of good climbing in the area, on gritstone or limestone. There are also a few good indoor climbing walls.

Rope Race

This is a very big and very good climbing wall based in Marple and is deserving of its popularity. It has been constructed inside an old mill with the highest walls being around 80ft where protection can be used rather than clipping bolts. There are walls for all levels of climbers and it has a small climbing shop and Cafe.

The Foundry - Sheffield

The original climbing wall with lot's to do at all levels - nuff said.

Glossop Leisure Centre

There is a small wall based at the Glossop Leisure Centre. It is only around 20ft high and is really only suitable for bouldering. It is mainly overhanging to get you pumped out pretty quickly. You need to fill in some forms to get a card before they will let you use the wall.
