Whichever
form of free flight takes your fancy, we can teach you. At
Airways we have experts in each discipline who can steer you
through your training in a friendly and professional atmosphere.
In sensible hands, free flying can be amongst the safest of
adventure sports.
The expertise you need to keep you safe
starts with the school you learn with. Airways schools are
registered with the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association.
We aim to equip you not only with excellent flying skills,
but also with the knowledge to keep you flying safely whilst
having maximum fun! Your course will start with a guided tour
of a hang glider or paraglider and an explanation of how it
works. You
will be initiated into the complexities of meteorology and
air movement so that you know when and where to fly, taught
some air law, safety rules and basic aerodynamics, and then
- we go out into the sunshine and put it all together, at
first on the ground, then gradually into the air.
Third
party insurance is a compulsory requirement of the British
Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association. We can arrange the
necessary membership for you. For paragliding and hang gliding
We run one and two day taster courses as well as a four day
course to Elementary Pilot Certificate Level which allows
you to fly solo but under the supervision of your instructor.
You choose the level you wish to achieve, and if you carry
on to qualify as a foot launch Club Pilot you will be eligible
to join any (or all!) of the sport flying clubs in the UK
You can fly in your own home area on their
own selected sites, or in an area you know such as Wales or the
Lake District where you can extend your previous air experience
by contacting the local club there. Fly over the crags you have
climbed on or take really good aerial photos! The extended course
to Club Pilot level gives you the qualification you need to fly
anywhere in the UK under the guidance of your school, then graduate
to Pilot - free flying, in competitions here and abroad, and the
ultimate, Advanced Pilot. Advanced training is available for cross
country flying (XC), advanced canopy control and aerobatics, tow
launching and flying abroad, especially in the Alps.
For paramotor and powered hang glider training,
if you have not already learned to fly, you will need some instruction
on flying a paraglider or hang glider before the engine is added.
Once you have mastered the basics, then you will be ready to fly
with the motor and can continue up to FLPA (Foot Launched Powered
Aircraft) rating. After that - the sky’s the limit! We are here
to enjoy ourselves - but in a safe environment. Come fly with us!
